WTV's TOP200 on VEHIX.COM
December 2005 - If you've bought or leased a car in the last few years you've probably used the Internet to do your homework. There are a bunch of good sites for finding automotive data including all of the features, options, costs, miles per gallon... even expected repair costs and consumer feedback. The one thing that we, as consumers, have not been able to do is to get the feel of the car, light truck or SUV. By that I mean, get that sense that "Yes, I could see myself behind the wheel of that vehicle."
What we drive is, in many ways, an extension of the way we present ourselves to the world. Just as you would not go to a quality restaurant in an old shirt that you've worn when painting a room in your house, you would not want to pull up to that same eatery in a vehicle that does not fit your image. Are you sporty? Utilitarian? A family man? Have you arrived? Are you concerned about fuel economy? And of course, do you feel like the car you are driving reflects the image you want to convey?
Until the Internet finally figured out how to deliver pretty good quality video, most of these questions went unanswered until you ventured into the dealer showrooms and ran the gauntlet of car salesmen. What a way to ruin an otherwise relaxing Saturday afternoon!
Well, I think we've finally found a way to save everyone some time, energy and grief. We call it Top 200 and you've probably read a bit about it in this column in the past. Top 200 is a video test drive of the most popular, most interesting and most exciting new vehicles on the road, today. With Top 200 you can get a good feel for what it might be like to own a car, light truck or SUV and if that vehicle fits your image.
Now, you can go on-line at Vehix.com, our new distribution partner, view Top 200 video test drives of the vehicles you are interested, and then gather all the data you need, even information on where you can find that new set of wheels you're looking for!
It's pretty exciting and even fun. We don't have the full array of vehicles up yet, but we are shooting new cars, trucks and SUVs every day. So, with time, virtually any vehicle you think you might want to own or lease will be on the site, ready for an instant video test drive.
If you happen to have Comcast digital cable, you can also view Top 200 test drives in their VOD area. Just go to Sports and Leisure and scroll down to Top 200.
I think you'll enjoy this new service and hope that it will be valuable to you. Thanks for your ongoing interest in WheelsTV. We are growing very quickly with VOD and broadband leading the charge.
Best regards... and please drive safely,
Jim Barisano
